Video: Dr. Levi Hansen on Neck Pain and Whiplash

Dr. Levi Hansen explains why neck pain from years of posture strain and neck pain from a car accident or sports injury aren’t treated the same way, and how he decides what’s safe and appropriate.

What Dr. Levi covers

  • Gradual posture strain versus a specific injury
  • What whiplash can do to the joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves
  • Neurological and orthopedic testing, plus X-rays or other imaging when needed
  • Why “your neck hurts, so let’s adjust your neck” isn’t the approach
  • What to do if you’re still struggling after an accident or injury

Neck pain can happen for a lot of different reasons. Sometimes it's the accumulation of years of repetitive stress and posture, while other times there's a specific injury like a car accident, sports injury, or even whiplash. And for those situations, they aren't always treated the same way. With whiplash especially, the neck can go through a tremendous amount of force very quickly, which can affect the joints, muscles, ligaments, and sometimes the nerves.

That's why our first priority is understanding exactly what happened and making sure chiropractic care is appropriate. We'll evaluate how your neck is moving, perform neurological and orthopedic tests, and when necessary, use X-rays or recommend additional imaging. From there, chiropractic care is focused on restoring healthy movement and reducing areas of unnecessary mechanical stress. The adjustment should never just be your neck hurts, so let's adjust your neck. We want to know exactly where the problem is, why it's there, and what the safest and most appropriate approach is for you.

If you're dealing with neck pain, or you're still struggling after an accident or injury, we'd be happy to take a closer look. Schedule your first appointment with us and we'll help you understand what's going on and what your next step should be. Have a blessed day.

This video is general education, not a diagnosis. Every patient is different, and the right care starts with an exam.
